We’re looking for a strong, community-minded person to step into the role of Cultural Heritage Coordinator – Statutory Functions and help lead our statutory work – ensuring that Djaara places, stories and people are protected and honoured.

  • Salary – $97k + super dependant on experience
  • Full-Time on-going position
  • Option of a 9 day fortnight

How can you make an impact?

You’ll walk alongside our Aboriginal Heritage Officers and community members, overseeing important responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic). This includes reviewing Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs), supporting the registration of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and making sure our protocols are followed on Country. You’ll be a voice for Djaara heritage – working closely with government, developers and community to make sure the law, and culture, are both respected.

Some of the things you’ll be doing:

  • Coordinating CHMPs, permits, and other statutory cultural heritage work
  • Leading and mentoring Aboriginal Heritage Officers
  • Supporting the protection of sacred sites, burials, scarred trees, and other important places
  • Engaging with stakeholders to build strong partnerships and advocate for cultural heritage
  • Supporting the revival and practice of Dja Dja Wurrung culture across Country

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A deep understanding and knowledge of Dja Dja Wurrung culture, traditions, aspirations and connection to Country
  • An understand the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and cultural heritage responsibilities
  • Confidence building relationships and advocating for  Djaara Heritage protection
  • Experience with compliance monitoring and reporting
  • An ability to plan, execute, and oversee projects, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and organisational objectives.
  • Experience leading or supporting teams with a focus on engagement and support
  • A Victorian Driver’s Licence and feel confident working out on Country
