How can you make an impact?

As the Aboriginal Heritage Officer – Women’s Business, you’ll be out on Country protecting sacred places like birthing sites, waterholes, and women’s ceremonial grounds. You’ll walk alongside female Elders and knowledge holders, ensuring their voices and wisdom guide our work and that women’s business is respected across all areas of heritage and land management

You’ll be doing important work like:

  • Advocating for women’s cultural knowledge to be embedded in land management and heritage decisions
  • Working with community to share stories, revive language, traditional crafts and ceremony
  • Acting as an Aboriginal Heritage Officer under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
  • Making sure developers, planners and project sponsors are meeting their cultural obligations
  • Strengthening intergenerational learning and building cultural pride in our younger women

Who We’re Looking For

This is a designated Female Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has completed Certificate IV course in Government (Investigations) and appointment by the Minister.
  • Has a deep respect for Dja Dja Wurrung cultural heritage, traditions and protocols
  • Has knowledge or lived experience of women’s cultural practices
  • Can yarn with mob, advocate in meetings, and feel confident walking between community and government spaces
  • Understands (or is willing to learn) the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
  • Has some experience coordinating heritage related projects and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
