New housing for women in Bendigo reaches major milestone

Today YWCA Australia and DJAARA celebrated the Topping Out ceremony for Burnayi Lurnayi (young women) – a $20 million social housing development in Bendigo for women and families.
At least half of the 35 new dwellings will be prioritised for First Nations women, following completion next year.
A sheoak (which is a women’s tree, native to Djaara Country) was placed on the top floor to mark the completion of structural works, in a Djaara-fied interpretation of the traditional Scandinavian topping-out ritual.
DJAARA is proud to partner with YWCA in this development, which has been designed with Dja Dja Wurrung women’s input.
Safe homes create equal futures.
